St Pauls Carnival
Portland Square, St Pauls, Bristol
If you live in the city but haven’t braved the St Pauls Carnival yet, you’ve missed a treat. The Caribbean street party turned night of reggae, barbecued corn and jerk chicken is one of the festival highlights of the year, likened to the Notting Hill Carnival and taking place in early July. The festival takes a rest in 2012 but will be back with abandon in 2013; expect a morning and afternoon of Caribbean carnival on the streets of St Pauls, where children and dancers fill the streets with colour, music and entertainment, leading to an early evening of music on the main stage, blaring sound systems and more dancing. Things heat up at night, with local clubs throwing parties and international acts taking to the stage amid smoke from barbecues and dancing, dancing, dancing.
