Royal Pavilion
Pavilion Buildings Brighton BN1 1EE
The decadent excesses of this multi-domed Oriental-cum-Palladian style palace leaves you in no doubt that it was designed for pleasure. Stuffed with painted chinoiserie, gilded palm trees and fantastical dragon-shaped chandeliers, it owes its existence to the flamboyant imagination of the Prince of Wales, who commissioned it in the 1810s, before he was crowned George IV. Highlights include the richly decorated music room and the Great Kitchen, equipped with state-of-the-art Regency technology.
