Everyone's ideal B&B is different; people are looking for different things, whether it's a great location, a comfy bed, privacy, or just a fantastic breakfast. But The Jointure Studios come closer than most to ticking all of our boxes. It's in a terrific location for a start, right in the centre of the South Downs village of Ditchling, with its pubs and cafés and the beautiful countryside of the National Park all around. It's also very private, basically a self-contained apartment that allows you to come and go as you please. Finally, and most importantly, it's extremely comfortable – simply a cosy and stylish escape in a beautiful part of England.
Shirley Crowther has been welcoming guests to The Jointure Studios since 2014 and has left no stone unturned in providing the ultimate South Downs escape for her guests. Being blessed with a gorgeous location has left her free to focus on details that most guests appreciate, for example fresh flowers in their room and guidebooks and maps to browse – and, most importantly, a host who was happy to help in any way to make their stay more pleasurable.
The flat is cool, calm oasis that you won't want to leave. Stylishly furnished and decorated with antiques, contemporary art and knick-knacks from Shirley’s extensive travels, it has a cosy living room with a TV and a kitchen area, a bedroom with a king-size bed (which can also be made up as twins) and a bathroom with a bath and powerful shower; Bramley toiletries are provided, as are cotton bathrobes. Situated on the first floor, it's a very peaceful spot, with both the bedroom and sitting room looking out onto Shirley's large and mature garden, where you can wander among the trees and browse the well-tended shrubs and flower beds.
The basics of what you need are provided in the kitchen, and each morning Shirley brings you a breakfast made up of fresh eggs, fruit salad, homemade cakes and artisan bread (a newspaper too, if requested). For the rest of the day you can self-cater or there are two pubs in the village, both serving really good food. Basically you couldn't be in better hands – or, for that matter, a more desirable place.
