A seaside hideaway for two on the West Sussex coast
Between the South Downs and the shingle beaches of the Sussex coast are a string of seaside destinations, all vying for attention. Brighton, of course, shouts the loudest, and there’s Shoreham and Worthing too of course. But it’s in between, in the much smaller seaside settlement of Lancing that you’ll find Shoreline Hideaway. It’s a smart self-catering holiday home for two and a great place to base yourself if you want to explore both the South Downs and the seaside – it's handy for both. In fact, it’s so close to the water that although you can’t quite see it from the tucked-away terrace outside, you might just taste the salty air with your evening glass of wine.
Book a weekend getaway in spring or summer and you could be enjoying that by sunset on a Friday after work. Apart from being easy to explore from, this place is also easy to get to, with or without a car. The cottage, an annexe to the owner’s home, is less than a mile from Lancing Station, which has a direct 80-minute link to London, via Brighton. By road, on a good day, it takes about the same.
On arrival, you’ll find that, inside and out, Shoreline Hideaway is a neat and contemporary place to stay. From the modern kitchen, with its turquoise splashbacks, through the softer blues of the open-plan living space to the bedroom at the back, this place has a real sense of flow. The hero space is in the middle: the combined living-dining room with its vaulted ceiling and sliding doors to the terrace. It feels exceptionally spacious for two of you, and the velveteen sofa and upholstered dining chairs add an extra layer of luxuriousness. This place may adjoin the owner’s house, but with your own parking space and a separate entrance, it’s very much a private getaway.
