What types of luxury accommodations do these cottages offer?

One person’s luxury is another’s necessity, but the sorts of things you can expect in a holiday cottage we would all ‘luxury’ might include some of the following: a really up-to-date and well-appointed kitchen; fast Wifi, Smart TVs and Bluetooth speakers; high-spec furnishings and bathrooms, at least one of which should be en-suite; large, comfy beds with good quality linen; large and well-tended gardens or grounds; a games room or maybe a gym; a pool or sauna; bikes for guest use; and finally perhaps access to optional extras – eg a private chef or yoga and fitness sessions. Can I bring my dog to luxury cottages and lodges?

Of course! Dogs need a bit of luxury too! There’s really no relationship between how upscale a place is and whether they allow dogs. Just be aware of any rules or stipulations (eg are dogs allowed in bedrooms/on beds?), extra cleaning charges and make sure that you and your hound leave no trace!  The luxury lodges at Devon’s Mole Resort are all dog-friendly, as are Yorkshire Dales Luxury Lodges.

What makes a good holiday cottage?

It’s a cliché, but Location, Location, Location remain the three most important things to think about when choosing a holiday cottage. Do you want to be in a town or village, or deep in the in countryside? Are facilities important – for example, a pub within walking distance, or a beach nearby? Do you need a car while you’re there? Then, of course, there’s the property itself. Do you want an open fire or wood-burner? Is there enough living space to ensure you don’t get on each other’s nerves?! Is everything accessible to the less able members of your group? Is a garden important? Do they have wifi, Bluetooth speakers, Smart TVs and other important tech? And, perhaps most important of all, is the kitchen kitted out with everything you need? Part of the joy of self-catering is, well, self-catering: make sure the cooking isn’t going to be a chore!
