Let's start with breakfast – the very best finish to a night at Skipton's Woolly Sheep Inn, a Timothy Taylors' pub near the foot of the High Street. Locally sourced sausage and bacon, homemade black pudding, muffins, real bread to slice yourself, barista coffee, made-to-order omelettes, French toast, orange juice on ice served in old-fashioned stopper bottles – you can see where we're going with this and why we like it so much. It's of a piece with the rest of the good food served at the inn and sets you up heartily for the day. Oh, the rooms? Don't worry, they're fab too – a bit on the small side, only to be expected in an old town-centre hostelry, but all nine are shipshape and furnished with modern country pine and earth tones. There is more space in the superior rooms, plus a fold-down sofa-bed. All you need for drinks is correct and present too, whether it's bottled water, tea or coffee, plus a voucher for a free half downstairs – and you can't say fairer than that.
