Perthshire
The biggest of Scotland's historic counties, Perthshire sits slap-bang in the middle of the country, a large round splodge made up of lush valleys and forests, powerful rivers and majestic lochs that stretches from the agricultural southern lowlands around Perth to the fringes of the Highlands in the north. There's plenty to see in the historic city of Perth on the banks of the river Tay, which used to be Scotland's capital city, while to the north touristy Pitlochry and the quieter village of Blair Atholl are the gateway to the wilder countryside beyond, and have walks and sights of their own, including the impressively turretted bulk of Blair Castle. There are decent places to stay pretty much everywhere – fancy joints like the unbeatable Gleneagles Hotel, humbler pubs and inns serving great local food and also options for families and more adventurous travellers – Forest Holidays have lodges up here, and there are plenty of comfy glamping sites.Best Places to Stay in Perthshire Holidays – Accommodation and Places to Stay in Perthshire I Cool Places
