A little off the usual Southwold beat, five minutes' walk from the High St, it's hard to know how to sum up the Blyth. It's undeniably nice, but a bit of a conundrum. Downstairs it's all contemporary and light, with a cool yet homely bar and a sleek restaurant that has a well-deserved reputation for decent food. Upstairs, its 13 rooms are decorated in a country style that is quite at odds with the boutiquey atmosphere downstairs – not in a bad way, but to us it's a signal that the hotel isn't sure what it wants to be. The welcome is warm though; there is free wifi throughout, and it is dog-friendly.
