On the water's edge at Falmouth harbour, the Greenbank is a real crowd-pleaser with class. Originally built in 1640, it's the town's oldest hotel, with uninterrupted panoramic views from both rooms and restaurant – perfect for a relaxing coastal break. The location could hardly be better and they have a range of guest rooms from Classic to Deluxe, some of which are dog-friendly, and the best rooms make the most of it – not just sea views and ocean-inspired colour schemes, but king-size beds, private balconies, decent bathrooms and – in the Florence Suite at least – harbour views from your roll-top bath. Two suites have private balconies It's just fabulous to draw back the curtains for another glistening sea view in the morning – though not all the cheaper rooms have water views, so make sure to ask if that's important to you.
The restaurant looks seawards anyway, so you can always feast on the views of Falmouth harbour before tucking into sumptuous food from the two AA rosette-worthy menu, on which fish and seafood feature highly. The terrace bar has more waterside appeal, and there's also a hotel pub – The Working Boat – for bar meals and Sunday lunches. The Greenbank is only a few footsteps from Falmouth town, so all in all it's the perfect place from which to explore south Cornwall's most historic resort and port. It is also the only hotel in the south west to boast its own quay and private pontoons, meaning if you simply have to travel here on your own yacht you'll be fine.
