The Stable
Fistral Beach Headland Road Newquay TR7 1HY
Taking prize position overlooking Newquay’s most famous surf beach, The Stable offers the ingenious combination of Cornwall’s very best ingredients crafted into pizzas and pies, served with local ciders and mesmerising sea views, yet with a friendly and affordable price tag. It’s not as if Newquay is short of classy restaurants helmed by expert chefs plating up the county’s finest produce, it’s just that many of these wallop hefty prices on their menus, making any meal out into something of a special occasion. But it’s not so at The Stable, where you can happily dust the sand off your feet or leave your surfboard at the door and tuck into lunch for less than a tenner. The rustic interior is doused in contemporary style, with long wooden tables stealing panoramic views over the surf on Fistral beach – whether you sit inside or out on the terrace, there are few better-placed dining tables in town. Far from simply being an incredible place to sit down for an inexpensive meal, the food and drink on the table is simply delicious. Chunky, hand-crafted pies and original, mouth-watering pizzas (The Lamb Roast, The Headland Herbivore and The Atlantic Angler, are just a few) are made from ingredients strictly sourced from Cornwall and the West County – from Cornish cheeses and locally-smoked mackerel, down to the flour used for the sourdough pizza bases. And to wash it all down there’s a serious cider menu with unusual local varieties, guest tipples and seasonal variations.
