Almost exactly half-way between Padstow and Newquay by Mawgan Porth beach, in a pretty, lesser-known bay, The Scarlet hotel is a sustainably-minded, adults-only, pet-friendly hotel that features all sorts of wow-factor facilities – designer rooms, cliff top hot tubs, a solar-heated pool, a state-of-the-art spa and a swanky restaurant serving only the freshest local produce. Huge glass windows let in the glowing evening sunset light, illuminating the sophisticated spaces of restaurant and lounge. It is nestled just below it’s family-friendly counterpart, the Bedruthan Hotel & Spa, and is equally accessible from the beach and the coastal path. The serene interior combines open spaces and open fireplaces to create a luxury experience for all hotel guests. The modern architecture emulates the curves of the coastlines and tumultuous Atlantic ocean: particularly in the winter time, this is a wonderful place to marvel over a stormy sea, still enjoying the warmth of the dog-friendly lounge. Its dog-friendly rooms each come with eating and drinking bowls, a blanket, poo bags and homemade doggie treats.
One of the most outstanding features is the hotel’s spa. Jump in a cliff top hot tub, glide through the infinity pool, or indulge in one of the hotel’s many Moroccan inspired treatments. Then wrap up in your robe to venture outside, where private, cushioned pods away you, amidst the dune garden that overlooks the ocean. Once you’ve warmed up inside, the seasonal menu in the restaurant brings together both Cornish produce and Europe-inspired dishes, complemented by the choices of your Sommelier. You can even try the vegan tasting menu, with accompanying vegan-friendly wines.
If you crave some quiet time away from the kids, staying at The Scarlet is a real treat where the staff will do all they can to make your experience as hassle-free and restorative as possible.
