An extension of the relaxing beach life bang on the doorstep, the Watergate Bay Hotel invites you straight off the sand into stylish accommodation. Not only do many of the rooms and living areas benefit from dazzling views over the two-mile stretch of Watergate Bay's sandy beach, but all the beach activities you could dream up can be arranged at the click of your fingers.
It has a lot in common with Another Place The Lake, with an emphasis on luxury and comfort without pretension and a liking for the outdoor life, dogs and families – the perfect place to chill out and relax, safe in the knowledge that you will be well fed and that nothing is too much trouble. The hotel's been here for years, taking the beachfront hotel concept to new levels, with a 25-metre indoor infinity pool overlooking the sea, an outdoor hot tub and loungers on the terrace and beach-facing boardwalk, their take on a spa (Swim Club), a gym and Finnish sauna, and finishing touches such as outdoor showers and a surf-in/surf-out kit area where your wetsuit can be dried overnight. There's also an Ofsted registered Kids' zone (available for six months to 12 years for supervised sessions) and brilliant facilities for teens, plus a Forest School-inspired Beach School during the school holidays. Dogs are welcome (extra charges apply) – crucially, on the beach itself.
With no less than 80 guest rooms, including four Village family apartments with open plan living spaces and seven beach lofts right next to the water, you're sure to find something to suit you: rooms range from 'Standard' to 'Best' along with beach loft and family suites (the latter with double bed and a separate space with bunks). All rooms have en-suite bath or shower rooms with bathrobes and Land & Water toiletries, plus tea- and coffee-making facilities, flatscreen televisions, Ruark Bluetooth speakers, WiFi and hairdryers. In most rooms, they can add a cot or small child's bed too so you don't have to opt for a family suite or apartment. All are available with or without sea views and apart from that the main difference between categories is simply size.
There are three stunning restaurants at Watergate Bay: The Living Space – one of Cornwall's coolest sea-view lounges for food and cocktails – Zacry's on the sea wall, serving a seasonally changing three-course menu, and The Beach Hut, dishing up burgers and grills and situated (you guessed it!) on the beach itself. Dogs are welcome in all restaurants except Zacry’s (they're also not permitted in the Swim Club).
All in all, they seem to have thought of everything at Watergate Bay. If there's a better beachfront hotel in Cornwall, then we have yet to find it.
