This respectable granddaddy of Rye’s boltholes began life as a 16th-century coaching inn and moved to its current town centre site in 1719. Despite its history the hotel has a contemporary feel and a popular bar and intimate little lounge. It’s the priciest option in Rye but by George it’s worth it.
The hotel's 34 rooms are each individually designed and although there's a traditional feel throughout, it's all topped off with some hidden mod cons. The marble topped baths of the en-suite bathrooms or walk-in showers of the junior suites give every room a real touch of luxury, while downstairs the grill restaurant serves fresh seasonal food sourced from local farms and their seafood comes from the boats of Rye Bay. A high-end hotel that is rightly at the top of Rye's accomodation options.

Good food
Classy place
Stayed at this hotel in July 2011 and was really impressed not only with the general style, decor and ambiance of the place, but also with the customer service. We were the annoying, very demanding customers with noisy babies and various child-related issues, and all our requests were dealt with patiently and expertly. The food at the restaurant was also first-class. If I need to add a negative comment to balance out the review, I would say the room we stayed in was not particularly spacious, although not ridiculously small. We'll be going back.
