There's something about The Gallivant that makes it impossible not to relax. Maybe it's the location right opposite the beach and dunes at Camber Sands; or the fact that they have a comfy bar and serve wonderful food in their lovely Scandinavia-meets-New England style restaurant. Or perhaps it's the cool, calm colours of its 20 bedrooms, which are equipped with Hypnos king or super king beds, duck down pillows and duvets and linen sheets, and handmade furniture that makes you feel like you've washed up at a particularly cool weekend home in the Hamptons.
The are 20 double rooms with king or super-king beds, all with en-suite facilities and some with both bath and power showers. Rooms vary from 'Cosy', 'Snug Cabin' and 'Baby Hampton' in the main house to the more spacious, more luxurious Deck rooms, which are dog-friendly and have bleached wooden floors and a small, enclosed decked area, Garden rooms which are super-large and have rolltop baths, pantries with Nespresso machines and fridges (with fresh milk), and high-end sound systems. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms, some with baths, high pressure showers and luxury bathroom goodies, plus there's free wifi, flatscreen TVs and DAB radios. Rates include an excellent continental breakfast (this includes excellent homemade compotes and muesli and the so-called 'recovery station', where you can mix your own Bloody Mary), and afternoon tea and cake as well.
The nice thing is they keep it simple: they call themselves a 'Restaurant with Rooms' so you know the food is going to be good, and for the rest they describe themselves as 'a relaxing hideaway from the stresses and strains of modern life where grown-ups come to dine, dream and relax'. Just to underline that, they have recently added a Beach Hut in the garden where you can enjoy a massage or facial – a perfect end to the day after a trip to the beach.
