The Old Ship W6
25 Upper Mall Hammersmith London W6 9TD
With its ivy-clad white walls and a front terrace and balcony enjoying a perfect position on the Thames waterfront, the Old Ship W6 has quite a lot going for it even without having a peek inside – which is more like a country inn rather than a London pub. Other than that, though, they have a very modern approach to their 300-year history, with a focus on food and dining rather than serving pints to thirsty visitors. They serve a good, largely pubby, admirably short menu all day every day, featuring things like sausage and mash, pies and steaks, along with the odd more exotic item; and breakfast from 9am every day too – not just and excellent Full English but stuff like pancakes and Eggs Benedict – at broad tables that make it an ideal venue for family dinners and weekend brunch and all-round convivial carousing.
