Housed in a former textile factory in E1 and with warehouse-style rooms complementing the look, this 80-bed boutique hotel is not only within strolling distance of two stations – Whitechapel tube and Overground – but also just a 10 minute walk from Shadwell and Aldgate East, making it connected to the Circle, District, DLR and Hammersmith and City line. It's home to meeting spaces and co-working areas for hot desking, not to mention themed lounges over four floors, a relaxing bar with live music and a restaurant by acclaimed – and fiery – chef Marco Pierre White.
Room-wise, there are three options to choose from – Pocket, Warehouse and Loft – all of which are designed with care, with original features, exposed brickwork, large windows, industrial detailing and flashes of colour dotted here and there. Plus, each comes with a 49” flatscreen TV, Hypnos bed, rainfall shower and air conditioning. Sounds pretty appealing, doesn't it? What's more, they don't waste space – and your hard earned money – putting in mini bars, but they do provide complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate from the vending machines located on each level. Ranging from bedrooms that make the ideal crash pad to capacious spaces with skyline views, a terrace, in-room Jacuzzi and private al fresco hot tub, guests are spoilt for choice.
For breakfast they offer a full a la carte menu alongside 'Cereal Grind', a more quirky option – head there and enjoy a variety of old-skool cereals and a choice of flavoured pop tarts. Why not opt for one of their 'cocktails'? Their Original Nutta, a combo of Reese’s Puffs, Crunch Nut Clusters, chopped walnuts and almond milk sounds mighty slurpable. Come dinner, head to in-house Mr White's English Chophouse and indulge in British classics with a hint of French panache thrown in. We like the roast chicken a la Forestiere with a fricassée of wild mushrooms, petit pois, pomme fondant and roasting juices, their 35-day aged ribeye or the French burger with melted cheese, crispy onion rings, Dijon mayo and iceberg.
In terms of location, public transport-wise they've got you firmly covered, but not only that, the east London position places visitors in close proximity to the City, Shoreditch, Spitalfields Market and Stratford's Olympic Park. Whitechapel Gallery is just up the road, as well a host of eateries and pubs, such as The Culpepper, Som Saa and Gunpowder. Both leisure and business travellers are well catered for when staying at this characterful spot.
