The Rose and Crown is one of Stoke Newington’s favourite pubs, pulling a mixed crowd for its friendly, unpretentious atmosphere, roaring fire in winter, and lovely old-fashioned detailing. And the seven boutique B&B rooms above it are a perfect addition. Recently refurbished there no chintz or old-fashioned B&B frumpery here – instead, free-standing roll-top baths, flat-screen TVs and fancy toiletries, in stylish café-au-lait coloured spaces that resemble something out of a fashion shoot. Wi-fi is free, which is a bonus, and a good breakfast, full English or continental, is included in the room rate (they serve food in the pub, too). There’s even a secret roof terrace where, in summer, you can take shelter from the lively Church Street action below. A really lovely option.
