One of very few privately owned five-star hotels in this part of London, The Ampersand is not only an extremely comfortable place to stay in a great London location, it's dog friendly, so you can bring the whole family too. More than half the rooms are dog-friendly, and hounds get a bed, bowl, treats and a toy as standard – and despite an official rule of one dog per room, they are refreshingly relaxed about the number and the size of the dogs they admit. But enough of dogs, what sort of hotel is it for humans? Well, the rooms are very nice indeed, like much of the hotel themed around the big London museums that cluster nearby. Ranging from small Doubles to Deluxe studios and suites, there are 111 rooms in total, and although each is individually styled they all boast extremely comfy beds with bespoke headboards, tea- and coffee-making facilities, Freeview TVs, robes and slippers and either bath tubs or walk-in showers in spacious bathrooms with high-end toiletries. Naturally the more expensive rooms are more spacious and some have free-standing baths in the room, plus some have Nespresso machines, but all the rooms are large enough to enjoy a reasonably lengthy stay.
As for other facilities, there are events spaces, a small gym, and the Drawing Room café, where they serve food all day, including an award-winning, similarly museum-themed afternoon tea. The downstairs restaurant, L'Apero, is relaxed and contemporary, serving a Mediterranean sharing menu that matches the laid-back nature of the hotel. And, briefly back to dogs, they can go anywhere apart from the bar and restaurant but you can eat with them in the Drawing Room, where they are always welcome.
If you're looking for a comfortable non-chain hotel in the heart of London's Museumland, where nothing is too much trouble, the Amerpsand is an inspired, very comfortable and very convenient choice. If you're looking for somewhere that is dog-friendly too, then it's pretty much the perfect place.
