Part of the Morgans designer hotel group, which also boasts properties in Miami, Manhattan, LA and San Francisco, St Martins set the bar pretty high for Central London accommodation when it brought its super-cool style to Covent Garden in 1999. Calling itself an “urban resort”, and furnished by Philippe Starck, with quirky styling at every turn and lusciously coloured shafts of light adding atmosphere, St Martins offers an upscale and witty experience. It’s a see-and-be-seen kind of a place, which is all part of the fun, especially in the Light Bar (strawberry cheesecake shots, anyone?) and high-concept fancy fusion restaurant, Asia de Cuba. Rooms, of course, are ultra-luxurious and very comfortable: most have floor-to-ceiling windows, but bear in mind that on the lower floors you’ll be treated to close-up views of urban bustle rather than breathtaking vistas. Guests receive free membership of the very well-equipped GymBox gym next door.
