The Boogaloo
312 Archway Road Highgate London N6 5AT
‘The sweetest little juke-joint in the world’ reckons GQ magazine and the jukebox of this Highgate pub has impeccable credentials. To date, Iggy Pop, Ron Wood, Kate Moss, Shane MacGowan, Sinead O’Connor and The Libertines have helped to compile its playlist. Indeed, MacGowan can often be seen propping up the bar, and he’s just one of many rock-celeb locals the pub has boasted and hosted over the years. Alongside its sounds, the Boog’s rock ’n’ roll kudos comes through regular club nights, most indie or retro, and surprise gigs from the likes of Pete Doherty and Coldplay. Indeed, Doherty reunited with guitarist Carl Barat over a pint here, and Suede’s Bernard Butler had a team at the Tuesday music quiz, Who Killed Bambi? Not that it’s all booze ’n’ blues – a market with bric-a-brac, records and crafts takes over on most Saturday afternoons. To a rock ’n’ roll soundtrack, obviously.
