Geffrye Museum
136 Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, London E2 8EA
The Geffyre Museum is a quiet highlight of the area, located in wonderful 18th-century almshouses adorned with a statue of their founder, Sir Robert Geffrye. Inside, the long wing of the building opens out onto a series of historic recreated interiors, from an oak-panelled 1630s hall to an elegant Georgian parlour and a high Victorian drawing room, with firescreens, plush furnishings and clashing patterned fabrics. A stylish extension to the building explores the modern era, with the height of 1960s cool represented, as well as a distinctly dated 1990s loft apartment. Plus there’s a decent café and, in summer, a chance to explore the herb garden.
