Shaka Zulu
The Stables Market Chalk Farm Road London NW1 8AB
How many restaurants have been royally blessed by a Zulu King, 20ft tall warrior kings watch over you as you dine and every wall is hand-carved and imported from Africa? Shaka, the largest South African restaurant in London, is as much of a visual as culinary feast, dripping with luxury and exotica from the champagne bar to the tables you dine at. The menu is made up of gamey South African dishes such as loin of springbok and zebra fillet, and you'll probably spot a few resident Camden celebs casually chugging down the odd bottle of champers at the bar before moving on to chow down on the restaurant's signature dish – Fit for a King – basically a plethora of meat options bought to your table as and when you want it. Overall it's a bit much for the average diner and borderline pretentious. But just like its divine neighbour Gilgamesh, it's certainly an experience and relatively affordable to boot.
