Brompton Cemetery
Brompton Cemetery, Fulham Road, London SW10 9UG.
Brompton Cemetery is one of the finest Victorian cemeteries in the UK and features more than 35,000 monuments, many of which are of historical importance. The cemetery has a formal layout, with a central avenue leading to a chapel based on the design of St Peter's in Rome and along its leafy walkways are buried people from all walks of life, including 13 holders of the Victorian Cross and numerous Chelsea pensioners. Look out for actor Brian Glover, Samuel Cunard, founder of the eponymous shipping company, and Charles Fremantle, who founded the Swan River Colony in Western Australia. It's a lovely place for a stroll, and even though it's presided over by Chelsea football ground, it still feels far from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city.
