One New Change
1 New Change London EC4M 9AF
Part of the regeneration of Cheapside, near St Paul’s Cathedral, One New Change is the City’s first and only shopping mall, a modernist structure and cathedral to consumerism that for once has been well thought-out. Not only does it save all those City office-workers a trip to Oxford Street in their lunch hour, but it also has no fewer than 6500 floor-to-ceiling glass panes in varying shades of red, grey and beige that make it appear to change colour as you walk past; and the glass lift is directly in line with St Paul’s, giving great views of its spiritual rival. Head up to the sixth-floor open-air Roof Terrace where it’s free to enjoy the views and you can grab a coffee or brunch with friends. And the shops? Well, they’re mostly high street fashion and accessory brands but there are a fair few cafés and restaurants too. Be aware, though, it’s not an indoor shopping centre – the usual clothing and weather caveats apply.
