Leadenhall Market
Leadenhall Street London EC3V 1LR
You may recognise it as Diagon Alley from the first Harry Potter film, and this covered Victorian market, restored in 1991, is certainly an enchanting place to shop, with a great array of stores – and, during the week, stalls – selling fashion, handmade jewellery, gifts and accessories, as well as lots of great food. The fine wrought-iron and glass structure was designed by Sir Horace Jones in 1881 (also the architect of Old Billingsgate and Smithfield Market), and it was originally a meat market – you can still see the meat hooks above many of the shops. Wander in whether you’re shopping or not; it’s one of the City's most atmospheric corners.
