Vanilla Black
17–18 Took’s Court London EC4A 1LB
Most non-veggies aren’t thrilled to visit a vegetarian restaurant, but Vanilla Black may convert even the most dyed-in-the-wool carnivore with its refined and adventurous cooking. The menu is elaborate but fun, with not a nut loaf in sight and wonderfully diverse and unusual combinations of ingredients – think brie ice cream with Victoria plum chutney, and salt & vinegar gel and shaved vegetables – and when they arrive dishes are presented so beautifully, with incredible attention to detail, they appear to be works of art. Stunning and delicious food, an almost secret location down a small side alley, and great service, with staff who are thankfully well practised in explaining the sometimes bizarre dishes and flavours.
