Dans Le Noir
30–31 Clerkenwell Green London EC1R 0DU
Started in Paris in 2004, and now with branches around the world, Dans Le Noir? is a pitch-black restaurant that’s all about taste, the idea being that your taste buds are heightened when you can’t see a thing. Served by staff who are all blind (and therefore better able to find their way around in the dark), it’s a weird experience that can leave you feeling disorientated and vulnerable so it’s not for everyone. Once you’re seated the waiter will let you know his name and you can call for him to order drinks or ask questions. Diners do, however, need to stay in their seats throughout the meal, so don’t worry about how you’ll get around – you won’t. And the food? It’s basically French cuisine, from a choice of set menus, including vegetarian and seafood, but usually with a twist to try and introduce you to new flavours. Children over 7 years old are welcome.
