The Stag
67 Fleet Road Hampstead London NW3 2QU
Tucked conveniently around the corner from Hampstead Heath, the bold and mighty charcoal-coloured Stag is a gastropub with both character and class. With chunky mirrors, Gothic chandeliers, a maple-topped bar and choice of daily cask ales, it's practically remained the same since opening in 1874. Throw in a roaring fireplace in winter and an absolute corker of a beer garden, and you won't want to leave. When it comes to beer, they spoil you with locally brewed ales like London Meantime, but they also offer a selection of aptly named cocktails including the Belsize Fizz. Ambience-wise, it's a home away from home, with the local residents often propping up the bar and live music blaring out across the expansive, fairy-lit garden – the stage for many infamous hoedowns and some cracking summer barbecues. A definite North London treat.
