Queen of Hoxton
1–5 Curtain Road, Hoxton, London EC2A 3JX
Young, funky, loud and fun, the Queen of Hoxton is a place for serious clubbers and party animals. With frequently changing murals and graffiti by local artists, it avoids the dive-like appearance of many clubs in favour of something more fresh and imaginative. There’s a spacious ground-floor bar and a low-ceilinged stage area downstairs. But the real surprise is up several flights of concrete steps, where there’s a wonderful roof garden. In winter this is partially enclosed by a huge tepee, with a bar and central grill for hot food; in summer you can watch the sun set while enjoying some delicious BBQ grub and ordering drinks from a cute chalet-like bar. Throughout the year, the food menu provides good fuel for dancing and drinking, while the quirky cocktail menu includes some excellent picks including ‘Don’t Go to Dalston’ (Bombay Sapphire gin and Martini Bianco).
