Compton Arms
4 Compton Avenue, Islington, London N1 2XD
Feeling remarkably like a rural local despite being five minutes' walk from Highbury & Islington tube station, the Compton Arms is a cosy little traditional pub, tucked in a tiny mews that you’re unlikely to stumble upon by chance. Most of the regulars are Arsenal fans, but the TV only dominates on match days. At other times, it’s such a small place that it’s always likely to be crowded, but conversation rather than music is the rule. Well-kept real ales, always including a few guest beers, keep things flowing. Pub grub such as fish’n’chips or pies – there's even a green Thai curry pie – is available for limited hours only. Smokers can squeeze into the small courtyard garden at the back. Sunday is quiz night.
