Kipferl is an authentic Austrian café in the modern style- minimal but warmly welcoming, with low-hanging lamps, white walls lined with black-and-white photos of Viennese notables and soothing, pale-wood decor. A full menu, including Wiener Schnitzel, spinach dumplings, goulash and wine, is served at the handful of tables at the back. But it’s the six tables at the front that offer the best value – here you can enjoy coffee (chosen from a colour palette, Viennese-style), cakes, snacks and sausages, or light lunches including a tasty liver dumpling soup. Homesick Central Europeans will be delighted to find Käsekrainer – a spicy sausage filled with tiny pieces of Emmental cheese – on the menu, while the cake selection offers (of course!) excellent sachertorte and topfentorte. Breakfast options range from a plate of mountain cheese with rocket and walnuts to briskly healthy muesli with yoghurt and fruit salad. All in all, a perfect spot for a quick pick-me-up or a full meal.
