Consistently rated among London’s most adventurous theatres, the 325-seat Almeida is renowned for its varied programme of classics and new works, often featuring big-name performers. Besides English playwrights from Shakespeare to the present, it regularly stages translations from all over the world. Built as a library in the nineteenth century, and retaining original features like its distinctive curving back wall, the Almeida has been transformed by recent expansions. It also boast a good café/bar, open all day, and is located just off busy Upper Street. Each July, its Summer Festival showcases visiting companies.
