An elegant oasis, across Highbury Corner from the top of Upper Street, Islington’s largest green space may be small by London park standards but it’s a lovely spot for a morning stroll or afternoon picnic. Surrounded by grand Victorian and Georgian terraces, its main section consists of open lawns crossed by magnificent avenues of plane trees. Neither it nor the streets alongside holds anywhere to eat or drink, but there’s a permanently stationed ice-cream van in summer and the friendly and inexpensive Oasis Café offers open-air tables in the adjoining section further north. There's also a popular swimming pool and gym, and an excellent kids’ playground, at the southern end. Tennis courts are located at the northern end.
