Sadler’s Wells
Rosebery Avenue Islington London EC1R 4TN
Apart from a ten-year gap in the early twentieth century, Sadler’s Wells has been a place of entertainment since the 1680s. Now firmly established as the nation’s leading contemporary dance house, the theatre hosts three of the world’s leading companies – New Adventures, ZooNation and Wayne MacGregor/Random Dance – and is the first stop for international companies on tour. You’ll catch anything here from tango to Matthew Bourne, Nitin Sawhney to street dance. The associated Lillian Baylis Theatre, next door, puts on smaller shows from up-and-coming choreographers and companies. Head to the Peacock Theatre near Covent Garden in the West End for more populist shows, plus the occasional opera.
