The Britannia
1 Allen Street London W8 6UX
Tucked away just off Kensington's busy High Street, the Britannia fuses traditional fixtures and fittings such as a real log fire and comfy leather armchairs with a chic, elegant atmosphere. Once upon a time this was part of the Britannia Brewery, built in 1834, but it was bought by Youngs in the early 20th century and today remains part of the Youngs family, offering the company's own ales alongside an ever-changing range of guest brews. The wine list is a crowd-pleaser, with enough interesting bottles to keep winelovers satisfied, while the food is some of the best pub food in this part of town, with a seasonal flavour and a focus on high quality British produce. The house speciality whole roast poussin is particularly delicious. There's live jazz on a Monday and a quiz on Tuesdays.
