Dinner by Heston Blumenthal
66 Knightsbridge Kensington London SW1X 7LA
Heston Blumenthal is known for his almost scientific experiments with food and lauded amongst critics and diners alike. Dinner is his first venture into the London dining scene and was received with great excitement when it opened in 2011 at the Mandarin Oriental – and guess what? It has recently won its second Michelin star. The food is predictably exquisite, from a menu was inspired by historic British gastronomy and featuring dishes such as meat fruit, powdered duck breast and brown bread ice cream. Leave your preconceptions at the door and enjoy feasting on things you never knew existed while gazing through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows into the kitchen. Don't be afraid to ask questions either – rather surprisingly, the service is as genuinely friendly as any you'll find in London, and staff have a demonstrable passion for the food they serve. The sommelier is particularly good so don't be afraid to ask for wine recommendations – this is a restaurant where you really might learn something, after all.
