Kensington Palace
Kensington Gardens Kensington London W8 4PX
This official royal residence, former home of Princess Diana and current abode of Wills and Kate, has recently reopened after a £12 million facelift. Its glass entrance atrium celebrates the diamond jubilee, and inside you'll find a central hub bedecked with an intriguing luminous lace sculpture that leads to four different "routes" – the King's route to the state apartments, where you can learn about the Georgian Kings and their court; the Queen's route to discover the sad story of the Stuarts and their many failed attempts at producing an heir; the Victoria Revealed exhibition, which explores the more personal side of this infamous Queen; and finally a room of dresses once worn by the palace's most asked-about inhabitant Diana, Princess of Wales. There are also a café and gift shop on site, both of which can be accessed without buying a ticket to the palace itself.
