XOYO
32–37 Cowper Street, Shoreditch, London EC2A 4AP
With a white-wall gallery and bar, Shoreditch newcomer XOYO (pronounced ‘Ex-Oh-Why-Oh’) aims to be more than just a music venue. But the low-ceilinged basement has played host to some impressive names since the club’s inception in 2010, from Syrian Dabke singer Omar Souleyman to Glaswegian electro trio the Errors. They also screen films and host parties and happenings. And while the stripped-back interior may not be the most soothing space for a night out, it’s well worth keeping an eye on their events.
