Spitalfields Market
65 Brushfield St, Spitalfields, London E1 6AA
Spitalfields is a market of two halves: an old wrought-iron, 19th-century covered space, and a glitzy modern mall, erected after a long campaign to prevent it proved unsuccessful. The covered market, with its handmade jewellery and quirky bargain fashion means Spitalfields retains a little of its old East End atmosphere, though it’s diluted by the surrounding chain restaurants and cafés. The market is liveliest on a Sunday: on Saturdays it’s closed and only the surrounding mall shops are open. Thursday is devoted to antiques and Friday to fashion and art.
