Ribbons and Taylor
157 Stoke Newington Church Street, Stoke Newington, London N16 0UD
Ribbons and Taylor has been selling vintage clothes from this little fuschia-painted spot for years, and it’s likely it will outlive many of the young upstarts who have joined it on Stoke Newington’s increasingly fashionable Church Street. Very sure of what it sells, it caters for most people, with a wide range of nicely sorted clothes that are priced sensibly. Jewellery and accessories, along with piles of deliciously battered cowboy boots and shelves of pre-loved jeans, are gathered at the front of the shop, where more often than not the staff are ironing or mending. They’ve got a great selection of men’s shirts and jackets, with a fine line in retro leather and suede, while for women there’s everything from 1970s skinny knits to 1950s ballgowns, with loads of wearable separates in between. A couple of curtained-off spaces by the jaunty barley-sugar pillars act as changing rooms.
