Like its dusky Edinburgh sister, the House of Gods is decorated specifically to evoke a seductive environment for couples, with dark wooden walls and floors, and the use of sumptuous fabrics, using velour and leopardskin prints. It's a simple enough brownstone building from the outside, centrally located not far from George Square, local and mainline railway stations, and the city's main shopping area. But it's also discreet enough for a clandestine tryst, with a ground-floor cocktail lounge and top-floor bar with food providing excellent locations for all sorts of get-togethers, secret or otherwise!
There are four floors of guest rooms which divide into three categories, from an intimate Cabin room through Classic and up to Presidential – House of Gods isn't the sort of place to do things by halves! All the rooms have strategically placed large mirrors which double as televisions, while the two upper floor Presidential Suites on the have four-poster beds and a gold roll-top baths in the main bedroom space. The shower rooms all have enormous circular shower heads, specifically designed for couples.
The top floor Sacred Garden bar and eatery is light and airy, decorated with fake flowers, and with outdoor terraces with tables on two sides. Breakfast is served here until 11am, and light bites are available from midday until the small hours. It's a popular drinking spot for the locals, with a cocktail menu that rekindles fables of infamous hotel and fashion hedonism and is available both here and in the ground floor lounge.
The great thing about House of Gods is the rates are affordable and include breakfast, although there are also plenty of opportunities for anyone wanting to splash out, with extras like the ‘Treat Me Like I’m Famous' package including butler service, gold rose petals scattered on the bed and various other goodies to encourage a seductive stay.
