Windsor is a popular tourist destination but it's not known for decent, affordable accommodation, so we were particularly excited to discover this contemporary boutique B&B, on a peaceful residential street right in the heart of the town and well placed for the castle, river and all the other attractions the town has to offer. Situated in an elegant Victorian townhouse, there are five guest rooms, divided between the lower floor and the top floor plus a further suite in an annexe in the garden.

The rooms vary in size – there are 2 doubles, 2 family rooms plus the garden suite – but they are all spacious and beautifully furnished, with lots of little touches that you are more likely to get from a high-end hotel, for example good-sized, powerful showers, robes and posh toiletries, but with the added bonus of a warm welcome from the friendly owners, who are always on hand to make sure you have a comfortable stay. All the rooms have free wifi, Freeview TVs and DVD players, hairdryers, mini-fridges, radio alarm clocks, tea- and coffee-making facilities, complimentary mineral water and fresh milk, while breakfast is a self-service continental affair supplied from the mini fridge, which is stocked daily with fruit muffins and other goodies that you can either enjoy in your room or in the breakfast room. The owners also provide short term rental apartments in Windsor for stays of a week or more. All in all we couldn't think of too many better places to stay if you're spending time in Windsor – and certainly nowhere that offers such good value for money.

We have created a really special space to stay in the heart of Windsor which represents great value for money. We recognise not all guests are looking for hotel facilities and 24 hour service but that doesn’t mean that comfort and style aren’t important to them. We’ve focussed on providing fabulous quality bedding, stylish décor and regular make-overs to give guests a fabulous experience in a great location but at an affordable price. Feedback and repeat business suggests that our guests love what we’ve done with the place!

Windsor is perfectly situated just 20 miles west of London and has excellent motorway and train links to the rest of the country. If you are travelling around the UK you can easily visit London, Bath, Oxford and it’s just an hour to Brighton and the south coast. Neighbouring towns Henley and Marlow, both on the River Thames, are just a short drive away, not to mention Windsor Great Park’s 4800 acres (don't miss Virginia Water Lake and Savill Gardens). Or how about checking out one of Heston Blumenthal’s 3 fabulous restaurants (including world famous Fat Duck), or the Roux Brother’s Waterside Inn? – all located in the tiny village of Bray, just a 15 minute drive from Alma House.

Alma House is superbly located on a tree-lined avenue in the town centre, just far enough away to avoid the crowds but literally 5 minutes walk to the shops and no more than 10 minutes to the Castle, River and Theatre. There is so much to do for families, couples and individual travellers. Of course two of the UK’s top tourist days out are right on our doorstep – Windsor Castle and Legoland, both of which attract millions of visitors every year from all around the world. Whilst no visit would be complete without seeing the Castle, there is so much more to do, all within walking distance of Alma House – including wandering the historical cobbled streets of Guildford Island just outside the Castle walls, touring world famous Eton College, visiting the Crooked House, and catching a show at the Theatre Royal Windsor.
