The Cornish Arms
Churchtown, St Merryn, Cornwall PL28 8ND
A short drive from Padstow, this traditional old pub in St Merryn was taken into the hands of the Stein empire in 2010. The setting is village-pretty, opposite a traditional Cornish granite church, and the menu has been kept appealingly casual, with reasonable prices for pub classics like a burgers, sausages with mash and onion gravy, and great mussels served with chips. It goes without saying that the menu flaunts Cornwall's finest produce, and as well as serving a decent range of real ales it's also the place for one of Cornwall's best Sunday roasts. They even have a pub quiz on Sundays, and also host an annual spring beer and mussels festival, so pretty much tick all the pub boxes that anyone could think of. Dogs are welcome.
