This is one of the latest of the 12 Forest Holidays locations around the country, and offers the chance to really get away from it all in a fabulously family-friendly location less than two hours from London. Set in 270 hectares of ancient beech woodland, it is home to 60 forest lodges, which range from treehouses that sleep up to 10 people to more modest affairs that sleep 2–6, plus the 'Golden Oak Hideaway – an adults-only affair equipped with wood-burning stove, hot tub and hammock that's ideal for a romantic weekend away.
All the cabins are extremely comfortable, equipped with TV, wifi (an optional extra), and fluffy robes in the en-suite (only included as a standard in the Golden Oak cabins). You can even bring the dog if you book one of the specific pet-friendly cabins.
As with all Forest Holidays sites, there's a Forest Retreat at the heart of the site, which has a café and bar, a shop, a children's play area and other activities, and is also the place you book tours with the Forest Ranger, who will show you wildlife, bushcraft skills and other fun things. A great family holiday, and a welcoming retreat for couples, too.
