Glamorous, nostalgic and even a little decadent, Annie’s is the grande dame of vintage clothing stores. In the heart of Camden Passage, Islington’s antiques alley, this sartorial Aladdin’s cave actually prides itself on its classy selection of antique, rather than simply vintage, clothing. Flapper dresses, 1930s bias-cut ballgowns, tea dresses, wedding gowns, fur capes abound, along with floaty vintage petticoats and negligees. It’s all rather romantic and enjoys a wonderful sense of theatre, bedecked with old lace, sleek satins and sparkling sequins. Fashion designers and costumiers alike flock here for inspiration, along with brides-to-be, supermodels and well-heeled fashionistas. Prices aren’t low, but in summer a few baskets outside yield bargain treasures – hats, gloves and various one-off accessories.
