If you're thinking of taking a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads, you couldn't get a more central starting-point than the boatyard of Norfolk Broads Direct, which sits right by Bure river in the centre of the undisputed capital of Broads boating – Wroxham. There are lots of boatyards on the Broads, but this is one of the best, with a fleet of over two dozen eco-friendly cruisers, ranging in size from cosy two-berth boats – perfect for a romantic holiday with a difference – to four-cabin behemoths with all the creature comforts you could possibly need.
The NBD cruisers are new, and most are equipped with fully functional kitchenettes and showers, TVs, DVD players and wifi, while most moorings have hook-ups for shore power. They are dog-friendly so all the family can come, and many have dual-steering, so you can steer outside when the sun shines and inside when the weather is less clement. You also don't need to be any kind of expert to take one of these boats out on the water– they're incredibly easy to manoeuvre (some have bow thrusters to make it even easier), and the guys at NBD will brief you thoroughly before they let you go. Tthey'll also give you all kinds of tips on where to go, journey times and the best pubs and moorings to stop for the night.
As for the Norfolk Broads, it's perhaps the least-known of Britain's 15 national parks, a haven of wildlife and peace that is best seen from the water. After a couple of days, as you chug peacefully from place to place, it can seem like another world, and perhaps for that reason alone there's no more relaxing a holiday than a boating break on the Broads, whether you're a seasoned pro or an absolute beginner. And finally, just in case you're not convinced, or you just want to test the waters by taking a boat out for a day or taking the odd cruise, you should consider one of NBD's waterside cottages or apartments instead – which handily are right next door.
