Many regular visitors to the Lakes love the Jumble Room best of all restaurants. It’s a happy, relaxed dining space run by really nice people, and while there’s a bohemian, arty air about it, there’s nothing casual about the food, which is a tour-the-world gourmet experience. Dishes roll with the seasons, taking in everything from hearty autumnal soups to summer salads, and featuring the likes of tempura prawns, crab crostini, coconut and lentil dhal, teppanyaki steak and the fabulously named 'Thriller from Manila' (Filipino-style chicken, since you ask); and if you can't find anything that takes your fancy, they also do good old fish and chips, served with mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce. With the music turned up, and the lights down, there’s nowhere else to be in Grasmere when you want a great meal, and if you’re looking to make a weekend of it, you should certainly check out the owners’ nearby boutique B&B, the Randy Pike, which is one of our fave places to stay for miles around.
