Ullswater Steamers
Pier House Glenridding CA11 0US
The crowds go to Windermere, but those in the know visit Ullswater, the beautiful northeastern lake traversed by century-old steamers. These leave from the small village of Glenridding and travel across the lake to Howtown and then up to Pooley Bridge – you can get off at either place and walk back if your legs are up to it, though the full round-lake cruise is a beauty, with the 3000-foot peak of Helvellyn rising above the serene waters.
