This beautiful Bath-stone Victorian mansion, refurbished in 2009, is the best of a cluster of upmarket B&Bs just over the river. Relaxing, classical-themed rooms with views over the Royal Crescent or the gardens – the owner is the principal cellist with the London Symphony Orchestra – have been furnished in a contemporary style but don’t scrimp on the comfort, fluffy towels and French herbal toiletries are a plus-. Once you'll be fresh from the high-pressure shower, a hefty full English or a lighter continental breakfast will be served in the breakfast orangery, which opens onto a lovely rear garden. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners who will go above and beyond to accommodate any request. Did I mention that there are chocolates dotted here and there...like everywhere!

Wonderful.
Dorian House
A perfectly adequate B&B not far from the middle of Bath. This isn't the height of luxury, but it has a nice garden, the rooms and facilities are as you'd expect from a decent B&B, and the staff are friendly.
