The Boathouse Whitstable
South East England Kent Whitstable
It's nice when your friends don't let you down, so we're very happy to report that one of our favourite Whitstable B&Bs has just added a self-catering option to its already sumptuous offering. Situated in the grounds of their excellent parent business – the Driftwood Beach House B&B – just around the bay in Seasalter, this is a delightful place to stay – bright, light and airy and with a very Whitstable, seaside vibe, filled with upcycled and antique furniture and fittings that have been assembled to give a contemporary and extremely comfortable feel. The Boathouse can comfortably sleep 4–6 people, with a king-sized bed, a comfy double sofa bed, plus two bunk-style beds up in the eaves that would be perfect for a couple of kids (or young-at-heart grown-ups!). There's a lovely and very characterful slate and marble wet room, with a shower and toilet, and a more conventional fitted kitchen on the ground floor equipped with all the stuff you need – and finally a large balcony with views over both the RSPB nature reserve and the sea.
Owners Jez and Michelle are often around and happy to offer advice on the best things to do in the area – situated on the edge of town, the Boathouse is a good place from which enjoy the best of both worlds, from the superb country and estuary walks you can do from your doorstep to the pubs and restaurants of Whitstable itself. Not only that, it's a really flexible place to stay: you can buy your own fish and seafood Whitstable's market and bring it back and cook up a feast, but if you are too lazy to cook your own breakfast you can always drop by the B&B for a morning fry-up. There's a minimum two-night stay, but who wouldn't want to spend at least that amount of time here? It's the perfect easy-to-reach seaside getaway from London!
